Formulado por la Comisión de Medio Ambiente y Desarrollo de las Naciones Unidas en 1987.
“El desarrollo que satisface las necesidades del presente sin comprometer la capacidad de las futuras generaciones para satisfacer sus propias necesidades”.
Cuando usted piensa en el mundo como un sistema en el espacio, empezará a comprender que la contaminación del aire de América del Norte afecta a la calidad del aire en Asia , y que los pesticidas rociados en Argentina podrían perjudicar a las poblaciones de peces en las costas de Australia.
Y cuando se piensa en el mundo como un sistema en el tiempo, usted comienza a darse cuenta de que las decisiones que nuestros abuelos hicieron acerca de cómo cultivar la tierra siguen afectando a la práctica agrícola de hoy; y que las políticas económicas que nos avalan hoy tendrán un impacto en la pobreza urbana , cuando nuestros hijos sean adultos.
El desarrollo sostenible descansa en:
- Que es posible y necesario.
- Que debe hacerse sostenible, perdurable y viable en el tiempo.
- Que la sostenibilidad debe ser triple:
- Sostenibilidad social.
- Sostenibilidad medioambiental.
- Sostenibilidad económica.
